Bruce Padmore Appointed to Board of the Upgrade Corporation.

January 7, 2004

Bruce Padmore, CEO and Co-Founder of Leap Frog Solutions Inc, was appointed to the Board of Director's of the Upgrade, a non-profit housing corporation.

Upgrade's mission is to provide low and moderate income families with affordable housing and equip them with the skills needed for self-sufficiency.

Since 1968, approximately 8,000 families have benefited from living at Upgrade's federally-subsidized housing for low-income families.

Upgrade aims for homeownership through acquisition and rehabilitation of existing housing. Families participate in the program through SWEAT Equity and or a small down payment. Financing is provided by financial institutions in a homeownership program, making the dream of homeownership a reality for many low to moderate-income families.

An emergency shelter was established in 1989, utilizing several two, three, and four bedroom units at the Lincoln Terrance Apartments. These units are provided as temporary housing for homeless families until permanent living accommodations can be found.

Today there is an even greater need for affordable housing. There are fewer units available in the Peoria area and more needy families. Changing housing trends are reducing the supply of units. At the same time, resident skill levels require assistance to move towards self sufficiency.
